When Reagan the Labrador dragged home a discarded bag of Meow Mix that she found on the side of a Des Moines road, her mom, Kerry, thought that her dog had simply brought home another one of her “trash treasures”.
At first, she ignored it and went inside. But when Reagan refused to follow her inside and became visibly upset around the trash bag, Kerry went to investigate. When she opened the bag she was horrified by what she found inside.
There were two kittens meowing and covered in gore. Someone had thrown a litter of kittens in the bag and tossed them on the road!
The bag had been run over by a car and several kittens were crushed to death, but two kittens survived and were clawing to get out of the bag.
Kerry cleaned up the traumatized kittens – later named Tipper and Skipper – and fed and kept them warm throughout the night.
The next day she called several shelters that all said ‘no’ before Raccoon Valley Animal Sanctuary and Rescue said ‘yes’.
The two kittens were vetted and fed and got stronger while the rescue screened potential families for adoption.
Skipper and Tipper became known as the “Bag Kittens”. Eventually they were adopted together into a loving home.
The two siblings remain close.
The boys are happy to be in their forever home!
Reagan and Kerry are true heroes for saving their lives, as is Raccoon Valley Animal Sanctuary & Rescue for agreeing to take the two boys in and foster and adopt them! Share this amazing animal rescue with your friends!
