Their hearts broke when they saw how a dog named Miley transform from a happy smiling dog to a broken-hearted puppy after her family surrendered her to the North Central Shelter in Los Angeles, California.
“Miley arrived at the shelter a smiling dog, and when she came out for play group stayed in the corner with her face pressed to the wall,” wrote Friends of North Central Shelter.
Others reached out to try and comfort her, including another dog in a similar predicament. “She accepted love and affection from volunteers and from Marley,” the shelter staff wrote. Marley met Miley in the play group and instead of playing with the other dogs, she went over and sat beside Miley.
Marley must have known how Miley felt, as she too was coping with being surrendered by her owner. Not only that, but it wasn’t her first time. Marley had been previously surrendered and adopted from the North Central shelter two years ago.
When the shelter first posted the picture of Miley, some dog lovers were concerned that Marley pressing her head against the wall may indicate a health concern, but the shelter reassured everyone that her symptoms were a result of depression not sickness.
Within a short time word had spread about the two homeless dogs and a rescue group stepped forward to save them.
Miley and Marley were rescued by Best Friends Animal Society – Los Angeles who cared for them until they found loving homes.
