When Ted brought a blanket in to The Antique Roadshow, he had no way of knowing that he had being laying a national treasure on the back of his chair! As he explains to the appraiser, Donald Ellis, he didn’t know much about the blanket other than it had been handed down in his family and that it was “Navajo”.
The appraiser agreed that it was Navajo, but was also a very rare Chief’s blanket – a Navajo-Ute First Phase Chief’s Blanket to be exact.
Ellis could hardly believe the amazing condition the 150-year-plus blanket was in. And when he asks Ted, “Are you a wealthy man Ted?”, it’s Ted’s turn to be in utter disbelief when he finds out how much the old blanket is worth!
The blanket was sold to an anonymous buyer for an undisclosed amount who then gave it to the Detroit Institute of Arts, where it’s on display for a few months of the year.
Share this amazing find with your family and friends!
I love discoveries like this one! It reminds me of the family who picked up a small ceramic bowl at a garage sale only to realize they had picked up a treasure!
