Two canine brothers are capturing the hearts of dog lovers after their touching rescue was revealed. Picasso and Pablo were part of a litter of puppies from a backyard breeder. But because Picasso was born with a facial deformity, the breeder was unable to sell Picasso and he was dumped at the Porterville Animal Shelter in California. Pablo wasn’t sold either and ended up at the shelter too.
The two Pitbull-terrier mixes were soon put on the euthanasia list. When a volunteer at the shelter saw them, she got in communication with Liesl Wilhardt with Luvable Dog Rescue in Oregon.
This wonderful rescue gives shelter dogs cottages to live in instead of kennels while they wait to find their forever homes!
“I asked her if she had any dogs with special needs, because I felt we could take some on,” Wilhardt told HuffPost. “She said, ‘Yeah, there’s a dog with a facial deformity,’ and I fell in love with his picture.”
Picasso’s facial deformity gives him a “squished face” look, with his snout to one side and his jaw to the other. When Wilhardt discovered Pablo was also at risk of euthanasia, she rescued him too.
Although Picasso is healthy and not suffering from his birth defect, with exception of one canine tooth that digs into his lower gum that will probably get extracted. He is also a messy eater and drinker.
Luvables Dog Rescue determined that the two dogs would do best if they were adopted together because of their loving bond.
“They are very attached,” said Wilhardt. “The term ‘bonded’ is over-used with dogs, but these two have come to rely on each other for security comfort and support.”

Picasso is the more outgoing and curious of the two. And he’s also unaware of how different he is, according to Wilhardt.
Since their story went viral on social media, the pair have received many applications, hundreds in fact.
Although Luvable Dog Rescue is happy with the response, the two dogs are not currently available for adoption.

Firstly, sad news to share. Luvable revealed that shortly after their rescue, Pablo passed away suddenly from an unpreventable brain aneurysm. But a few years later we’re happy to update everyone with the fantastic news that Picasso has found the most wonderful forever home!
