Police Shut Down Highway To Save Lost Dog

It wasn’t a safe situation for Lexi the German Shepherd to be in. She was running loose on Interstate 495 in Massachusetts when state troopers received the call that the dog was in danger. “The pup was walking in and out of traffic in all three lanes,” described the Massachusetts State Police.

“Troopers Malachy Higgins and Dana Atkinson responded and located the dog, and tried to escort her off the roadway and toward an off-ramp,” they wrote on Facebook. But Lexi ran back into traffic.

That’s when the troopers coordinated with the Methuen Police and the Massachusetts Department of Transportation for all lanes of traffic to be temporarily closed! With the cars safely out of the way, the set out to catch her.

Trooper Higgins finally managed to lure the dog into his cruiser with an unexpected treat – a granola bar!

“The dog jumped into the driver’s seat and sat behind the wheel. Trooper Higgins got into the cruiser and got the tired pooch to move over into the passenger seat.”

With Lexi in State Police “custody”, Trooper Higgins drover her to Lawrence Animal Control where she was quickly reunited with her relieved family!

I never would have thought a granola bar would work! I’m so glad the state police acted promptly.  Share Lexi’s rescue with your friends and family!
