A veterinarian technician at the Mercy Animal Clinic in Garland, Texas found a stray young female Pit bull looking after a special charge at the side of a road in South Dallas. The dog was nursing a 2-day old kitten!
With no other animals in sight, Marina brought the pair back to the clinic to be looked after. On March 18, 2015, Mercy Animal Clinic wrote on their Facebook page: “The dog is sweet and loves the kitten, but her milk is drying up. We are bottle feeding the kitten today and placing it in a home with a nursing mother cat tonight. Good job Marina!”
On the first night, the kitten went home with Dr. Hamlin for bottle feedings, which the Pit bull they nicknamed “Pittie” wasn’t too happy about.
“I brought the kitty home to bottle feed tonight, as I left, the pitbull starting howling,” wrote Dr. Hamlin. “I bet she’ll be happy to see her tomorrow. Anybody want to adopt the two together? :))))”
Every morning, Pittie waits anxiously to see her adopted baby. While Dr. Hamlin her kitten, she lovingly cleans it.
A few days after her rescue, Pittie was spayed and happily reunited with Kitty right away after. What did she do? She went right back to keeping her baby clean of course!
I wonder how these two strays ended up together? Whatever their sad story, I’m very happy Marina and Mercy Animal Clinic were there to help them!
Mercy Animal Clinic updated everyone on Pittie and Kitty and the news was bittersweet. Kitty passed away and it was determined that she had a congenital kidney and bladder malformation. This may be why Pittie took care of the sickly kitten that no one else wanted.
Dr. Hamlin said that “while Kitty’s time on earth may have been short, her days were a constant stream of love and compassion. While she was blessed to have been adopted by Pittie, rescued by Good Samaritans, cared for by us at Mercy, and followed by thousands around the world, we were blessed to be able to care for her and love her in her short time here.”
Pittie, meanwhile, has found a loving forever home! The dog with happy, funny personality now has siblings and a wonderful family to take care of her!
