Bertha Komor waited a long time for her wish to be realized. Ever since she was a young girl, the 104-year-old has wanted to meet and hold a penguin. She never thought it would happen, but thanks to her caretakers at the Village Gate Farmington retirement community in Connecticut, the Mystic Aquarium and the Twilight Wish Foundation, her dream came true.
“I never thought it would happen,” Komor told NECN after she got to pet Red Green, the aquarium’s oldest African penguin (he’s 35-years-old). “I didn’t expect this — [it’s] wonderful,” she said.
For Komor the “best part was petting him and seeing him close up.”
Komor’s grandchild, Karen Rivkin, joined her grandmother for the special moment, told NECN, “I’m just so excited for her. I’m just so happy she has had this wish come true and just to have been in our life for as long as she has.”
