A 9-year-old boy’s quick reflexes saved his baby brother from a terrible fall off a changing table. The incredible moment was captured on surveillance video, which his proud mom shared for the world to see.
In the baby monitor video shared by mom Tila Levi, baby Eitan can be seen rolling over and then off the changing table before Joseph springs into action and catches him. Seeing that Joseph saved his little brother, Tila pulls him in for a big hug, obviously incredibly relieved and proud of what he did.
Tila, a mother of five children, was home alone with the kids at the time of the accident. She was changing her 11-month old son’s diaper when she turned her attention to one of her other children for just a few seconds. But in those few seconds, the infant squirmed and began to fall off the narrow table.
That’s when Joseph sprung into action, sprinting over to the changing table and catching his baby brother just before he hit the floor.
Joseph said afterwards he doesn’t even know how he did it. “I would never be able to do that again because I can’t carry my brother,” he told ABC News, puzzled at how he managed to catch the baby. He also added he can’t even run that fast, yet he managed to reach his brother in time.
Joseph may be confused at how he did it, but the 11 million plus people who have watched the video say the boy is a hero. His mom said she now gets asked, “Where’s the superhero?” when they go out. Joseph said he’s a little bit embarrassed by all the attention, but mom couldn’t be prouder of her son.
Joseph was later honored with the ‘Do The Right Thing’ award from the Miami Police Department.
As for what happened, Tila admitted that she made a mistake when she turned her back, but she decided to share the video publicly because wanted to remind other parents to remain alert. And no doubt, she is incredibly grateful for her son too.
“At first I said, I messed up. I did something wrong, but then I realized that, really, it was a miracle,” she told ABC News. “I must have done something right to have been deserving of this little guy, running in at the right time and catching him at the right moment.”
“My message is to parents: Enjoy your kids,” Levi concluded. “Protect them as much as you can. At the end of the day, in a second, everything can change.”
