A three-headed giraffe and a cool sloth are just two of the advanced photo entries for the upcoming Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards 2024. “This year, the competition organizers are releasing some of the shots that have already had them guffawing like gorillas, to inspire both professional and amateur photographers to enter their own images before the closing date of July 31st,” the annual competition shared in a press release.
With just under a month before the competition closes for entries, the organizers decided to share an advance preview of some of wildlife’s funniest moments on camera that they’ve received so far. Here is a sneak peek.

Laughing out loud. This newborn seal seems to be laughing at a good joke. Location of shot: Helgoland, Germany.
Watch out For That Tree. A Male Mallard flying appears to be running into a tree at Chaparral Park in Scottsdale, actually was flying behind it!
A sloth in Costa Rica that looks like he may have been a guitar player in a previous life. This image gives new meaning to Eric Clapton’s nickname “slowhand”
Holding on for a ride. Mother brown bear trying to go and her cubs want a ride instead of walking at Lake Clark National Park.
Did You Hear the One About The….? Anthropomorphic antics of polar bears (Ursus maritimus) telling each other jokes and laughing hysterically. Photographed in Churchill, Manitoba, Canada.
This year the Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards is partnering with the Whitley Fund for Nature (WFN) a UK charity that supports conservation leaders working in their home countries across the Global South. For over 30 years the WFN has channelled £20 million to more than 200 conservationists in 90 countries.
“It’s a pleasure to be working with the Comedy Wildlife team – fantastic partners who share our commitment to generating vital awareness of conservation through the power of photography,” says Stefan Maier, Nikon Europe Senior General Manager Marketing.
Closing date for all entries is July 31st, with the shortlist being announced in September and Winners a couple of months later. For more information about the competition or how to enter visit: www.comedywildlifephoto.com
