Family Cat Went Missing In Yellowstone, Makes Incredible 900 Mile Journey Back To California

How did he even do it? That’s what Ben and Susanne Anguiano are wondering about the miraculous journey their lost cat made. Several months ago, while Ben and Susanne were in Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming with their two cats, one of their cats, Rayne Beau, escaped and ran into the woods.

They looked for five days and got help from park rangers and fellow campers before they had to go home to Salinas, California. They were heartbroken.

Flash forward several months and to Roseville, California, a town 200 miles away from Salinas and 800 miles away from Yellowstone. Alex Bitts was heading into work when she heard a cat yowling. An animal lover, she knew the sound was a call for help. She walked down to a drainage ditch in a gully and found a cat barely clinging to life. She didn’t know it at the time, but it was Rayne Beau.

She called Doordash to bring cat food to her work and gave it to the cat and she immediately knew by the way he reacted to the tin opening that he was a pet. She returned with more food and a dog kennel before taking the cat home to recover a few days and then took Rayne Beau to Placer SPCA. Rayne Beau was scanned for a microchip and Susanne’s name showed up. When Susanne got the call, she was overwhelmed.

She and her husband have no idea how Rayne Beau travelled 900 miles over the past 60 days. It’s a mystery whether he trekked or somehow hitched a ride. But Susanna says that Alex told her that Rayne Beau didn’t look like he was going to make it much longer. His condition fully backs that up because he has lost 40% of his body weight and his paws were “very beat up.” Susanna says that Rayne Beau is an “amazing trooper.” “He has come back a different cat,” she said. By which she means he is much more affectionate and sticks close to the couple. He’s no doubt relieved to have survived and made it home!

As to how events lined up to deliver Rayne Beau home. Everyone involved suspects some divine providence. Alex said, “Things lined up the way they were supposed to.”
