Rescuers Are Puzzled Why Puppy Is So Scared, Then They Notice Symptoms

When rescuers first saw Chewy, they thought the little dog was a broken soul. He huddled at the back of the shelter while the other dogs eagerly came to the front. In hindsight, they realized he wasn’t feeling well.

Meggan, the ED of Operations for HIT Living Dog Rescue, shared that when Chewy went into foster care, he wouldn’t eat in front of anyone, suggesting he had experienced emotional abuse. He continued to eat very little, and soon, the team noticed he had a respiratory infection. Once that cleared up, they saw Chewy was constantly hungry, thirsty, and urinating frequently—clear signs of a serious health issue. But it remained a mystery until they got him to the vet.

It turns out Chewy’s mysterious illness was diabetes. He was started on insulin and given a glucose monitor. Within a day, Chewy’s personality transformed—he became energetic, lit up when he went outside, and craved attention from everyone. His recovery was nothing short of miraculous.

Soon after, Chewy found his forever home with Deedee. When they first met, he walked right up to her and gave her a kiss. Now renamed Morris, he’s thriving with his new family and living his best life.
