Volunteer Overcome with Emotion After Saving Trapped Dog from Floodwaters

When the Kakhovka Dam in Ukraine was blown up by the Russians in June 2023, the released waters flooded towns and villages, killing at least 35 people. Volunteers came to the disaster zone to rescue both people and pets. A small dog, trapped in a home, was clinging to floating furniture on an upper floor with no way to escape.

In a video shared of the dog’s rescue, volunteers are seen in a dinghy by the window as the dog frantically paddles in the water. The roof of a neighboring home can be seen behind them, showing just how dangerously flooded the area was.

The rescuers use a stick to break the glass, creating an opening, and the little dog zips out and is scooped up. Shivering from the cold, the dog looks relieved to be saved. The man holding the dog is visibly emotional, cradling him in his arms.
