When Oliver was first spotted by his rescuers back in 2014, they weren’t sure he would make it. The dog was riddled with mange and disease and was slowly starving to death. He was living in a garbage pile in the outskirts of Athens, Greece and was impossible to get close to, but the day came when he simply gave up on living. That’s when rescuers with Penny Marathon knew they had a chance to save him.
They rushed him to hospital for medical treatment, where it was “touch and go” for a while, but Oliver chose to live.
Time passed, and Oliver recovered. But in the 3 years since, Oliver has not yet found a home!
Penny Marathon, who takes care of rescue dogs in Athens, Greece, doesn’t really know why he hasn’t been adopted yet. He’s come a long way since he was a stray struggling to survive.
Marathon founder, Eleftheria Prodromou, says Oliver has had four girlfriends over the past few years, who have kept him company, but they’ve all been adopted. “When his last girlfriend was adopted he was so sad for two months and he’s still feeling it,” says Penny Marathon founder Eleftheria Prodromou.
Good news update:
Three years after his rescue, and a few months after the plea went out to find him a home Oliver has found his forever family in the UK.
The Orphan Pet says that he is one “happy boy” and loving his new life, enjoying walks, visits with the neighbors and being used as a “pillow” by the family’s other dog.
What a wonderful happy ending after such a long journey! Share Oliver’s story with your family and friends. Visit Penny Marathon’s website for more information to help other dogs like Oliver!
