A woman visiting her local Starbucks made a shocking discovery when she visited the restaurant’s unisex restroom. She discovered a hidden recording device taped to the bottom of the baby changing station which is located directly in front of the toilet seat.
The 25-year-old woman found it at a store in Alpharetta, Georgia, and immediately snatched the hidden camear off the wall and told a Starbucks supervisor before calling police.
Thankfully, after reviewing the footage, Officer Miller told FOX 5, the video is poor quality and it appears no private parts were clearly seen.
“We’ve learned that the device had about an hours worth of recorded video on it and detectives found 8 to 10 men and women videotaped while in that restroom,” Officer Miller said.
“A lot of it was men using the urinal so they were from the back but there were a few images of women using the toilet but nothing was clear enough to identify a private area,” Officer Miller said. “We do know none of the victims were children.”
Detectives are working on digital forensics to see if they can try to identify any of the victims or the person who placed it there.
“We were quite concerned to learn this and are grateful to our customers and partners who took action to involve local authorities,” a Starbucks spokesperson wrote in an email to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “We will continue to support them in any way we can.”
“Always be aware of your surroundings,” Officer Miller said. “If you’re in a restroom that’s not yours, be sure you look around and check hidden areas that aren’t very visible. Unfortunately, this seems to be happening more often than you would think.”
