A K-9 police dog lead sheriff’s deputies right to a missing Florida woman with dementia, saving her life. The dog sniffed out the woman in a wooded area, where she had fallen to the ground. She was severely dehydrated when they found her.
“Deputy Lariz and K-9 Toby tracked her to a wooded area about 250 feet from her home,” the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office explained in a Facebook post, where they also shared Deputy Lariz’s bodycam footage.
They continued, “With the help of the HCSO Aviation Unit, deputies got the woman safely to a local hospital, where she was treated for severe dehydration.”
Longer video footage of the rescue can be seen in the Facebook video below:
The Sheriff’s Office said the woman, who is in her late 60’s went missing from her home and her family called them as they were worried about her safety.
“There is nothing worse than the terror someone feels when their loved one goes missing,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister. “With the hot temperatures outside and the remote area where this woman had fallen, a very frightening outcome was avoided thanks to the diligent work of our deputies.”
Thankfully, the woman is expected to recover.
Chronister encouraged others to call 911 immediately in the event someone in their care goes missing and recommended getting a tracking bracelet for loved ones with special needs.
