Dog Who Has Lived 8 Years At Shelter Is Going Home In Heartwarming Adoption Story

Leroy has been living at a rescue shelter for the past 8 years but he is finally going home at age 12. The elderly shepherd mix has spent almost his entire life in shelters. He was rescued from euthanasia at a Miami shelter after being picked up as a stray by Dog Tales Rescue Sanctuary in Ontario, Canada. He was adopted at 4 years old but after biting his adopter he was returned to A Dog Tales shelter where he remained until this month.

Flash forward to present day when Leroy caught the eye of Tasha Leelyn. Leelyn had previously adopted three dogs from Dog Tales and knew of Leroy. She recently decided that she and her partner would establish a retirement home for dogs and wanted Leroy to join the pack.

She shared her adoption news recently on TikTok, and the video tugged on the heartstrings of millions of dog lovers.

Many viewers were in tears when they learned that Leroy had been overlooked for so long. Boo wrote, “12 YEARS? That poor baby. Life is so incredibly unfair. Thank you for showing him love and giving him a good life in his last bit of life.”

@tashaleelynLeroy, you are home ❤️

Leelyn shared the journey to adopting Leroy in more depth on her YouTube channel. In the video, the lifestyle blogger from Ontario, Canada explains why she has decided to set up a retirement home for dogs. She also explains how she and Dog Tales Rescue took a bit of time to see how things would go with Leroy and her other dogs, as he is selective with who he befriends.

Thankfully, Leroy’s meeting her other dogs went really well. He is loving his newfound freedom which is evidenced by the number of times he rolls in the grass! He is now off-leash and roams with his new family but with the muzzle on for now, just to be safe. One thing is for sure, though, that Leelyn is a wonderful, one in a million adopter, for noticing Leroy and taking him home!
