Adele shared a touching moment with an elderly man during her Las Vegas show recently. The 34-year-old singer was walking through the crowd and performing her song ‘When We Were Young’ when she past by the man, who was holding out his phone to her, which had a picture of his wife on it.
Later on stage Adele dedicated ‘Someone Like You’ to the man and took a moment to speak to him directly. “This is for you sir, who’s showing me his wife on his phone,” she said. “I’m so sorry for your loss,” she said after she finished singing the song. She believed the man’s wife had passed away and began to cry as she spoke to the audience.
Adele wiped away tears as she shared with the audience, “I wish you could see what I see. Because I know I talk to a few people every night, but then I just see little stories of people happening and there was a man – can you see him holding his phone up? I think that’s his wife on his phone, and I don’t think she’s here and it just really moved me.”
Video of the touching moment was later shared on social media.
People on social media later commented how they were moved by the moment too.
“I think it’s incredibly humbling when a star such as Adele takes a moment to reflect on the lives of the people attending. I’m a performer and I usually switch off my brain and try to rationalize that the people at the show are cardboard cutouts that I don’t have to worry about. Not because I don’t care, just because it helps me deal with the anxiety of performance,” a redditor wrote.
Said another fan, “So many layers of empathy, compassion, and actual bravery on Adele’s end. Fantastic to see.”
