When Charlene Fritz was visiting Snow Hill Island in Antarctica, she wasn’t expecting to snuggle up with a 200 pound baby. But while on the beach, a curious young elephant seal approached her and cozied up on her lap and snuggled.
Charlene, who recorded the footage in December 2011, made sure not to directly touch or approach the animal in accordance with advice. That didn’t stop the two-month-old seal from leaning in for a kiss! Baby elephant seals are are left unattended by their mothers after a month to encourage the youngsters to pluck up the courage to head out to sea and hunt for their food. Journalist Charlie Bird had a similar close encounter with a baby elephant seals.
