A group of fishermen were visited by a surprise fishing partner when a bald eagle swooped down and stole a fresh piece of salmon right off their boat. British Columbia resident Ashton Philips and his friends were fishing for halibut and had just finished cutting pieces of salmon for bait.
They had noticed bald eagles flying around in the area, but hadn’t expected one to swoop down. Phillips had taken out his camera to film some of the scenery when the bird dive bombed the boat. “I panned over and hit the slow [motion] right as this bird was coming right at us,” Phillips told CBC News.
Phillips shared the “magical moment” online and its since gone viral. Some people thought the video was staged, but Phillips says he was just very lucky getting the “once-in-a-lifetime” shot. It was very lucky for the eagle too, as it got a freshly filleted piece of fish to eat!
