With their tattoos, leather clothes and rough appearances, bikers often bring up the stereotypical images of outlaw gangs and menacing thugs. But this group of bikers are completely different and are making a completely different impression on abused children.
Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA) International wants to make the world safer for kids who are sexually, physically or mentally abused. After noticing so many kids feeling afraid, the bikers decided to become a positive force in the children’s lives and to fill a gap that the social system doesn’t provide.
The bikers visit the kids house and give the kids they help a road name and a patch and make them part of their family. The kids soon learn that their new family won’t run, won’t hurt them and will do whatever it takes to make sure they feel safe.
And these bikers put their words into action. Members regularly check in on the kids and let them know they are there to protect them and be a friend if they need one. They also go with the children to court to support them. ‘
One child testifying in court wasn’t afraid to confront his abuser and told the judge he wasn’t scared because “My friends are scarier than he is.”
With the motto “No child deserves to live in fear” emblazoned on their vests, these bikers are making a real difference in abused kids lives!
The bikers are all volunteers and undergo a thorough criminal background check and are trained by a licensed mental-health professional affiliated with the chapter.
