When a toddler fell down a large pipe and became trapped, rescuers frantically tried to free the young boy, but kept failing. After 11 hours of attempting to save the boy, 15-year-old Christian Marian Becheanu volunteered to help.
In the dramatic video, firefighters strap a harness and headlamp on Becheanu before lowering him down the narrow pipe to retrieve the boy. Everyone holds their breath when he disappears from view, but moments later Becheanu is pulled up feet first with the toddler in his arms.
Needless to say there are relieved cheers and claps as the two emerge from the pipe. The moment when the father has the young toddler back in his arms, brought tears to my eyes. What a relief for the family and everyone involved.
News crews immediately ask Becheanu if he was afraid, but the young hero says no. An translated excerpt from the interview goes as follows:
Interviewer: Tell us, tell us how, tell us the story.
Becheanu: Uhh, I entered in there, I shook my feet twice for them to take me out, and I grabbed him by the hands, and I took him out.
I: And? Were you afraid that maybe you’ll drop him?
B: No, no I wasn’t afraid because I had a good grip on him.
Second Interviewer: Well were you afraid a little bit at the beginning when you entered?
B: The first time just now, yes, but then I wasn’t afraid anymore.
Third Interviewer: Was it far [down]?
K: Yes
This rescue took place a few years ago in the city of Segarcea, Romania. The town and its citizens were so grateful for the young boy’s heroism that the mayor promised to give Becheanu a 300 square meter piece of land on which they would build a house for him, a local newspaper reported.
Watch the harrowing rescue in the video below and share this young boy’s heroism with your friends and family.
