Hannah Stonjeck’s grandmother has had a sandstone rock in her possession for 45 years and always wondered if there was a fossil inside. Here’s the moment she finally breaks it open…fingers crossed!
It takes some time and patience as she taps along the surface to loosen whatever might be inside. But grandma gets help (and opinions) from her family as they gather around for the big reveal.
As she begins to hit the sandstone a bit harder and the cracks get bigger and the rock finally begins to separate.
Grandma can be heard saying she hauled the rock all around southern Alberta after she found it. And her patience and diligence pays off – there’s a fossilized crayfish inside!
