This is one awesome dad! What began as doodles on sandwich bags to amuse his sons, has transformed into a 6-year creative odyssey for David Laferriere.
David told Reshareworthy.com he began drawing on his kids’ sandwich bags because he wanted to jump-start his creativity and have some fun with his kids.
Here is a selection of our favorites.
David started drawing on the bags in May 2008 when his kids were 9 and 11 years old. They enjoyed it immediately. “They liked the surprise,” David told Reshareworthy.com. “Sometimes, they would try to sneak a peak at what I was drawing.”
When his kids bring their lunches to school, the other kids look forward to seeing what is drawn on the sandwich bags and “sometimes grab the lunch bag to see what is inside,” said David.
David’s sandwich bags have also gained fans worldwide thanks to social media. “A lot of people know me as the Sandwich Bag Dad. I’ve had an exhibit of the bags in Madrid, Spain,” David said. He added, “And maybe the bags can help pay for the kids’ college.
After 6 years, David continues to draw on the lunch bags because of his kids and because “it’s fun and a challenging way to start my day”.
David has now drawn close to 2,000 sandwich bags. As for his favorite subjects to draw, David said, “Monsters, robots, snowmen, fish, chickens and the occasional worm.”
