Mert was driving to work when he noticed a dog frantically chasing after a car. He had just seen the dog being abandoned on a forest road in Turkey and now, desperately, the dog was trying to keep up with its owner’s vehicle.
Mert called out to the dog, and to his relief, the dog stopped running. He pulled over, opened the back door, and the beautiful German Shepherd jumped right in. Mert canceled all his meetings that day and took the dog back home. That decision marked a turning point for the poor dog.
That’s because when Mert isn’t working at his full time job, he helps rescue animals. Mert named the dog Jean Pierre. “I was hoping to find him a new home, but he has lived with us for quite some time and he’s got very used to us,” Mert wrote on his Instagram page. “I decided to keep him here, thinking that he would feel abandoned once again if he left us. Thus, I officially welcomed him with this initiation ritual that we apply to every new furry member of our big family. He’s not number one anymore. He has a name that makes him a ‘person’ for us. His name is Jean-Pierre and his nickname is ‘Jumpy.’”
