A loyal dog stayed with an elderly woman with dementia for three days after she wandered away from home. The 80-year-old woman took the family dog out for a walk in Emery County in Utah and never came home. Her family and neighbors immediately began searching for her and searched throughout the night. They called authorities for help in the morning, and extensive searches began. One officer with his K9 Klip searched on night two. The temperature during the day was around 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and at night it was around 50 to 60 degrees. After three days, everyone was getting worried. But some searches had heard a dog barking at night up in the hills.
Rescuers hadn’t thought the woman would have hiked up so high. Then on the third night, around 3:30am, they heard the barking again. When they began looking again on the third day, they had a pinpointed area to look. and they found the dog and the woman sitting right next to her.
The dog had protected her from wildlife and kept her warm during the chilly nights. The woman hadn’t realized she had been gone so long. She thought she was gone for just 10 minutes. Without the dog barking throughout the night to keep his human safe, the outcome might not have been so happy.
