Omid Asadi takes natural fallen leaves, which he delicately cuts and carves into works of art. Hailing from Iran, and now living in the United Kingdom, Omid says that for him art is a “way of looking differently to this world”. He wondered why nobody paid attention to the beautiful leaves on the ground.
Instead, people trod on them. Something they would not do if they were flowers. “I wanted to give the leaves another Life and make art from them,” he explains on his website.
Please note: photos below may take a few seconds to load.
Omid says he first collects the leaves and dries and presses them before sketching out his complicated patterns.
After he’s finished sketching, he uses an X-Acto knife to cut out the design.
The work is very delicate because any slight slip of the hand can tear the leaf and destroy hours of work.
Each work can take up to two months to complete.
Here’s a video made a few years ago, showing Omid at work.
