Family Went Camping with One Dog, End Up Going Home With Three

Astraea and her family were camping in a familiar spot near Lake Sturgeon in Canada when they were joined by two unexpected guests. On their second night at the campground a dog showed up and made herself comfortable. Then around midnight a puppy appeared.

Astraea posted a video on her TikTok channel showing her family dog lounging on a chair and then panned over to one dog napping on the grass and the puppy also sitting in a chair. She asked humorously how does the “puppy distribution system” work. Did these dogs showing up and hanging around mean they were now hers?

Astraea explained that the two dogs were likely “rez dogs” being that the campsite is located in the middle of a reservation and as such dogs are often free to roam around.

Astraea’s family quickly became attached to the pair of dogs nicknaming the adult female “Sweet Pea” (later calling her “Buttercup”) and the puppy “Baby Dumpling.” They grew attached to the dogs but they also wanted to see the dogs safely returned home so they checked with the other campers and asked around if anyone was missing a dog.

Astraea did find Sweet Pea’s owner. The senior man had several other dogs and could no longer afford to care for Sweet Pea so when Adahm offered to take Sweet Pea and he agreed.

As for the little puppy, Astraea found her owners too, and left a note on their door. They later texted her that they had been stranded out of town. Despite not being back for the puppy for several days, when they came back they wanted the puppy back.

Astraea’s family were preparing to leave the campground and leave Puppy Dumpling behind. But something didn’t sit right with her. In her heart, she believed Dumpling belonged with them. So she returned to the couple and offered them money for Dumpling and they accepted.

Astraea and her family didn’t wait around for them to change their minds and soon were packed up and heading home with two new furry additions to their family.

Viewers on TikTok loved the story. One person enthusiastically commented, “”BEST CAMPING TRIP EVER!!!! From now on, I’m bringing extra chairs with me for puppies to show up to.”

Another added: “They are TOO CUTE! And they seem very content with your family and your current dog. I’d say they’re keepers!”

When the family got home Sweet Pea, who is an outside dog, hesitated a bit before coming inside their home. But after setting up beds, Sweet Pea and Dumpling were soon cuddled up together and sleeping.

Astraea later told Newsweek that the two new dogs are getting along well with the family’s current dog and that the puppy is showing she’s the “bossy one” and already “running the show.”
