A plump raccoon needed a helping hand after getting stuck trying to crawl through a sewer grate. Just like Winnie the Pooh got stuck at Rabbit’s house after eating too much honey, this critter must have been feasting a little too much on trash around the City of Zion, Illinois.
The City of Zion Illinois Police Department shared some photos of the rotund raccoon trying to get out of his predicament.
Although they couldn’t free him themselves, the kindly folks at Zion Public Works Department managed to squeeze him back down.

They shared a short video of the rescue and couldn’t help but chuckle at the “Fatty”. Josh Behling, who shared the video said that dropping the raccoon back down the hole was the best option. “[He was stuck between the back of the basin and the lid,” he wrote on Facebook. “The hole’s in the back of a basin. Letting him down the basin was the safest option. He crawled right into a pipe and scurried off. He was not harmed in any way.”
“They were able to free him and our friend was no worse for wear,” the police department wrote in a Facebook post. I think the raccoon will think twice the next time he tries to squeeze through a grate. Share this raccoon’s rescue with your friends and family.
