A woman who disguised herself as a nurse and tried to kidnap a baby from a hospital’s maternity ward was thwarted by the infant’s grandmother.
The kidnapper – named in media outlets as “Su” – had dressed up in a nurse’s outfit and entered the nursery at a hospital in south-western China’s Sichuan Province.
She somehow managed to roll the infant out of the maternity ward in his bassinet and was making her way to the exit when she ran into the child’s grandmother. The grandmother was instantly suspicious of the nurse and began grilling the would-be babynapper with questions.
According to Chinese news sources, she demanded the woman take the baby back up to the nursery and followed the woman into the elevator and put herself between the woman and the baby.
In the security camera footage, the disguised woman helps push the baby back out of the elevator before getting back in, most likely to trying to make a hasty exit. However, the grandmother alerted hospital security and the woman was taken into custody attempting to flee the hospital. She has been arrested for attempted kidnapping, but her motives for attempting to steal the baby are still under investigation.
Thank goodness the baby’s grandmother spotted her! I would hate to think what would have happened if she had not run into the fake nurse!
