One glance at Jason Lee’s photos is sure to make viewers look a little harder. But when I heard the story behind these images, my heart melted and I couldn’t wipe the smile from my face for a long time.
Jason shared his photos with Reshareworthy.com and below is a selection of my favorites. Here are a few great ones to start:
In November 2006, Jason started a personal blog that chronicled the lives of his two daughters, Kristin and Kayla.
The reason for the blog was simple, to capture their daily lives for his mother, who was diagnosed with non hodgkin’s lymphoma and wasn’t able to see them on a regular basis.
Jason writes, “My mom still continues to fight, and I am blessed to have her in our lives today.”
His photos are so much fun! This one below was inspired by “Angry Birds”.
“The kids gave Selina the best Mothers Day gift a mom could wish for. They hit the mute button and let her sleep in for a morning.“
“Waking up for school, trying to squeeze in those last few minutes of sleep. I still feel that way. Every day. Kristin turns 9 years old today, and sorry, you don’t get to sleep in, even on your birthday.“
“Last day of school, definitely beats the first day of school“
You may have guessed by now that many of Jason’s images are digitally enhanced using Photoshop and that he isn’t actually putting his children at risk of injury! His wildly creative ideas have so much impact that once I started looking at his photos, I just wanted to see more.
“I told her to hang on. She didn’t listen.“
“Sometimes they act like….“
“This is one of my personal favorites.“
“Not everything is photoshop ; )“
“Bubbles were real.“
Here are some “behind the scenes” images to give you an idea of how Jason creates his photos. After seeing these, I have so much (more) respect for him!
“Buildup shots for Angry Birds“
“Building’ light. The girls don’t like to stand around while I set up my lighting, so I use my trusty stand-in model. His name is Dyson. He doesn’t complain, I don’t have to reward him, and he serves double duty as a floor cleaner. Sometimes I like to use multiple lights, and you can see how ‘adding’ light can achieve different looks. In the final shot I didn’t use the ringflash, but all the other components stayed.“
“So, how do I get kids to look naturally happy? Make myself look like a fool of course : )“
“Closed roads make for cool shots“
Of course, when Jason’s family grew to include Voldie (short for Voldemort), the adorable black lab was included in all of the family’s activities.
“Let’s see who trains who.“
Jason writes, “I just hope that people enjoy the images as much as I enjoy taking them. Maybe reading about their antics and stories can bring a smile to someone’s face.” You can see more of Jason’s photos here, here and here. Jason has a HUGE collection of photos on his blog, kristinandkayla.com.
