A Washington County K9 has become a social media star for his snack breaks with his handler. 10-year-old Radar is trained to track down suspects. But when he’s not taking a “bite out of crime” he’s taking a bite of whatever his handler, Sergeant Eamon O’Reilly, is eating in the patrol car. The simple snack breaks have become very popular on social media with the cute videos getting millions of views.
Sgt. O’Reilly regularly shares Radar’s “snack attacks.” In the videos, Radar pops out of the back of the car like a jack-in-the-box every time O’Reilly opens the door and then it’s chow time. Radar’s tail can often be heard banging in the background as he tries out the various snacks offered.
Radar will eat practically everything. He’s not picky. He’ll eat lettuce.
@radar_snacks My dog eats lettuce
He also gets special food rewards like the “capture burger” when he’s helped arrest a suspect. O’Reilly said the capture burger is “a treat for tracking a wanted felon who ran after ditching his car.”
@radar_snacks Capture burger. A treat for tracking a wanted felon who ran after ditching his car. My fry math was off. Sorry.
But the one thing Radar doesn’t like eating? Peeled bananas, which is odd considering most dogs love bananas!
O’Reilly admits he’s tried a few of Radar’s snacks too (things like dried anchovies or dried beef liver).
@radar_snacks Starbucks potato chive bakes for breakfast. Radar had his breakfast already.
The pair have become so popular that O’Reilly says he now gets food from all over the world – food he never imagined eating. One other funny thing about Radar that fans of the TV show M.A.S.H. might notice – Radar’s full name is Radar O’Reilly.
