It was a sweet potato standoff between an Alaskan mom and a moose at Costco. Amber Rotar was grocery shopping when she experienced what she described as, “a typical Saturday—until it wasn’t.”
Amber was loading groceries into her car at the Anchorage Costco when a giant moose took an interest in her cart.
At first, she tried to shoo the moose away. Then, she offered her sweet potatoes as a peace offering. The bartering continued with Amber putting her hand on her hip and tsking at the animal. She later realized, as people snapped photos, that it looked like she was “mom lecturing a wild animal.”
The standoff went on until the moose lowered its ears—a signal Amber wisely took as her cue to lower her phone and back off. Eventually, the moose wandered away, and Amber was able to continue her day. She later told CBC’s The National that the moose hung around Costco for much of the day.
