When Kaya first began fostering Honey, the German shepherd Dog was in rough shape. Honey often chose the smallest bed and often preferred to curl up in the dirt. Kaya thought it seemed almost like Honey believed she didn’t deserve love and wanted to make herself as small as possible. Yet, Kaya knew deep down Honey must have always longed for someone to love her.
Honey and her four puppies had been rescued after being dumped in an orchard in Bakersfield, California. Kaya suspects Honey had been a yard dog used for breeding and then abandoned once her puppies were born.
Kaya, who runs Shiloh’s Animal Rescue (which opened just this past June), took Honey in as a foster after her puppies were all adopted. It took some time, but Honey eventually began to relax. The moment she finally realized she was loved is incredibly heartwarming.
Now, Honey loves to flop over and demand attention, often throwing herself into Kaya’s lap. Kaya will continue to foster Honey and admits she’ll be jealous of whoever adopts her.
