Fuku the owlet and Marimo the kitten have to be the sweetest baristas ever! The two best friends can be found at their home at Hukulou coffee shop in Osaka, Japan. Japan has a number of animal-themed cafes. Cat cafes (neko cafes) are the most popular and have been around for years. People can sip their coffee while petting cats. Patrons find the experience relaxing and there are quite a few in Tokyo. Much rarer are rabbit cafes, goat cafes and most recently, owl (“fukurou”) cafes.
It is apparently legal to buy and own owls, although many Japanese residences do not allow pets of any kind. Fukurou cafes let patrons hang out with the birds as long as certain conditions, such as no loud noises or flash photography, are met. Some cafes allow you to hold the birds (for an extra fee), while others have much stricter rules about handling the birds.
As for these two adorable youngsters, the real-life Owl and the Pussycat duo really like each other’s company.
