People in Turkey’s western Bursa province couldn’t stop turning their heads upwards to the skies for a rare weather phenomenon.
On January 19, residents in the area awoke to see a large saucer shaped cloud that had many people calling it a UFO. It turns out to have a much more earthbound origin. Meteorologists say it was a rare lenticular cloud.
The National Weather Service says lenticular clouds “develop within the crest of mountain waves where the air is rising.” Wind fluctuations over the hills and mountains cause the cloud’s unusual shape.
It mesmerized many people in the Bursa, who filmed the cloud, which stuck around for an hour.
The video below shares how lenticular clouds form.
