There were many divers at the 2024 Summer Olympics that showed off their impressive skills. But there’s one diver who recently made the news that comes about her skills naturally without any practice. Kova is a polar bear at the Alaska Zoo who has a unique diving style that has captured everyone’s attention.
The playful bear was captured on video by staff at the zoo.
@alaskazoo You never know what these bears will be up to each day! That’s why you should plan a zoo visit Sunday, July 14th is a ConocoPhillips Summer Family Fun Day, 12-6pm. https://www.alaskazoo.org/summer-family-fun-days-live-music Video by Facilities Crew Member Ron. #alaska #championsofthewild #anchorage #wildliferescue #weloveanimals #alaskalife #nonprofit #alaskazoo #thealaskalife #polarbears #fyp #fypalaska ♬ original sound – alaskazoo
“Just the way she lined her feet up together and the way she kind of kept her body still and kind of kept — I guess you could call it a diving form when she went into the water — I think a lot of people really enjoyed the video and it resonated with them with the Olympics coming up,” Katie Larson, the zoo’s grants director, said of Kova in an interview with KTUU-TV.
Kova doesn’t always have the same form. She actually mixes up her diving style. Check out her second dive below:
