Officers Oklander and Sidders were ]helping a disabled motorist when they had to leap into action to help an infant desperately needing help.
Incredible police body cam video captures the moments Shaker Heights police officers rush to save the baby, who is choking. Officer Sidders immediately jumped into action, turning the infant over and started tapping her back. Then, his partner hit baby Tyra a bit harder to try and get out whatever was caught in her throat.
The infant’s mom, Tamica Pruitte, looked terrified, but the tactic worked and the baby started breathing. You can hear the relieved officer say, “I can hear air moving. She’s moving air. Okay, she’s breathing.”
The officers did exactly the right thing, as administering the standard Heimlich maneuver on a baby is dangerous because they are too small to have pressure on their chests.
Tamica had stopped and put her hazards on in the middle of the intersection when she realized Tyra was choking on her milk in the back seat. She was in the back seat trying to help Tyra when the police officers appeared just at the moment her baby stopped breathing.
It was a great stroke of luck for the frightened mom that Oklander and Sidders were there at the exact moment they were needed.
Watch the amazing footage in the video below and share what these officers did with your friends and family.
