Puppy’s Rescue Journey Full of Setbacks Leads To Happy Ending

A neglected puppy’s journey to happiness was long and full of challenges. After numerous life-altering setbacks, a homeless puppy named Gertrude finally caught a lucky break. Found in a kennel in a parking lot, Gertrude was rescued by NOCO Humane in Colorado. She was emaciated and suffering from mange, but despite her poor health, she remained a very happy and spirited girl.

After a few weeks of care, Gertrude began to recover. She was nearly ready for adoption when she started sneezing and developed severe nasal discharge. Vets diagnosed her with a respiratory infection, requiring her to be isolated for over a week. Thankfully, she pulled through. Once again, the team prepared to put her up for adoption—until disaster struck.

Wildfires hit Larimer County, forcing NOCO Humane’s Emergency Services team to provide temporary shelter for over 200 evacuated pets. With space stretched thin, two other rescue organizations stepped in to help. Gertrude was transported to the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region in Colorado Springs, about two hours away.

The staff there immediately noticed her infectious joy and playful personality. When Gertrude was finally placed up for adoption, she was adopted that very same day!
