A Pit Bull left tied on a New York City street during a heatwave now has a completely different life. For one of his rescuers, Julie, that’s no small accomplishment because, when she first saw Mr. Pickles, she said he was “the most broken dog” she had ever seen. The dog was found in a back alley and surrounded by fifth. Tethered to a short chain, Mr. Pickles couldn’t go anywhere. His scarred face hinted at a traumatic past.
A Good Samaritan, two police officers and a group of rescuers came together to save him. Julie, who is the president of The Franklin Angus Fund, was one of them. She talked to Mr. Pickles for nearly an hour before being able to coax him into her car. Once she did, she immediately drove him to City Vet for treatment and shortly after he went to a foster with Rescue City.
When he was ready, Mr. Pickles was put up for adoption and caught the eye of Cathy and her husband. It was instant love between the three. Mr. Pickles is now named River, and is loving his new life. The family has three goats that River has to visit every day. Cathy says that not only is River a special soul he is also a loving dog.
