Staff Sergeant Tim Chambers is known as the Saluting Marine for standing at attention for hours during an event known as the Rolling Thunder/Ride for Freedom. Held every Memorial Day in Washington, DC, the event honors veterans and raises awareness of Prisoners of War/Missing In Action issues.
Sgt. Chambers stands on concrete dressed in his Marine uniform and holds the salute for three to four hours, while bikers drive by. It’s a demanding role, but one that the Marine carries out without complaint and with a profound sense of duty.
The video below was filmed in 2013, the year he held his salute with a broken wrist. Every year, many veterans and citizens thank the lone Marine for his powerful tribute in remembrance for those who have sacrificed their lives for freedom.
