Starved Puppy’s Recovery in Foster Home Captures Millions of Hearts With ‘All Her Firsts’

A rescue puppy experiencing “all her firsts” at her foster home has warmed millions of hearts with her recovery. Roo was rescued near death along with two of her littermates. The Raleigh-based rescue, Perfectly Imperfect Pups (PIPs) rescue, rescued the puppies found abandoned in a crate without food or water in a backyard in the heat. Nicole Kincaid, the founder of PIPs told WRAL the puppies were the “skinniest, emaciated pups we have ever seen.”

Sadly, one of the puppies did not survive, but Roo’s surviving sibling went to a foster and Roo went to the foster home of Katie and Meaghan who run A Crew of Rescues. The couple have four of their own rescue dogs and when they welcomed Roo into their home, the pup was greeted with lots of love.

The three-month-old puppy only weighed around 4 pounds when she should have weighed at least 10 pounds. At first, all Roo wanted to do was curl up in her new dog bed and sleep. She was uncertain of her new surrounding and where she was and if they were going to hurt her. But slowly, as she experienced “all her firsts,” which included her first meal with them, her first snuggle, and her first toys. A Crew of Rescues shared the adorable TikTok video and captioned it, “Don’t ever question the impact you can have as a foster.”

The pure happiness in Roo’s eyes by the end of the video shows how comfortable she’s grown in the care of the Crew. A Crew of Rescues said that Roo “looooooves a cozy bed” and that in a longer version of the video she “she takes a big sigh of relief as if she’s realized she’s going to get good night sleep from here on out.”

“We just love seeing her progress and how much personality she has now,” A Crew of Rescues said. One thing that helped Roo heal were the other rescue dogs in the house. “Dogs who have healed can help heal other dogs,” said A Crew of Rescues.

Not only that, A Crew of Rescues added, “We have 4 rescues already that she is getting to learn from. She gets to eat whenever she is hungry. She never has to stay outside longer than she wants to. Most importantly, she never has to go in the crate.”

A month later, Roo gained weight and now weighs over 9 pounds.

Fostering is so important to A Crew of Rescues and they believe that for rescue dogs it’s “truly the bridge between their betrayal and their forever home.” So they deliberated before making this next decision. Should Roo go or should she stay? And they decided, Roo is joining the Crew full time. There’s no leaving now!

They later shared this sweet video of Roo and captioned it, “How your once ‘foster’ puppy sleeps knowing she’s convinced you to adopt her and now she gets to cuddle in your arms every night, forever.”

Just seeing how Roo goes to bed when she first arrives to how she goes to bed now is such a contrast. It’s not only a tremendous joy to see her so comfortable in her now-forever home, it’s also such a relief knowing she will be safe and loved for the rest of her life.
