Stolen Cockatoo Joyfully Reunites with Mom in Heartwarming Video

The heartwarming moment a stolen cockatoo recognizes his mom has come to get him is leaving animal lovers in tears. Over a month ago, Tofu the Umbrella Cockatoo was stolen from Feathered Follies in Concord, California when burglars broke in and stole Tofu and another bird, Plato the African Red Belly.

The thieves left behind a handprint and a single bloodied feather but no other evidence. Mercedes Kemp, who owns the store and has had Tofu since 2010 was heartbroken and sick with worry for the welfare of the two birds. She reported the theft to police and local news media and the bird loving community rallied behind her, helping to raise reward money and spread the word.

Then, finally, a break in the case and Tofu was found in Los Angeles. The couple who bought Tofu was unaware he had been stolen but as soon as they learned he had been they arranged to give him back. They took care of Tofu until Mercedes could come and get him. He immediately recognized Mercedes when she crossed the street to meet him and flapped his wings and opened his beak.

Watch their heartwarming reunion in the video below:

@fixchix I knew in my heart we would find them! We are still looking for Plato so any leads are very much appreciated. Tofu was bought without knowledge of his being stolen and they gave him back. The men responsible are being charged. I hope im giving a Plato update next!! #birdsoftiktok #update ♬ original sound – Fixchix

Tofu and Mercedes are overcome with emotion that’s for sure.

Tofu reunited with his mom.

WPLG Local 10 reported that Tofu had been sold multiple times before ending up in Los Angeles but thanks to a joint police investigation, Tofu was tracked down and at least one person is in custody. Sadly, Plato is still missing but everyone is hoping and praying that police will be able to track down Plato soon now that Tofu has been found.
