A homeless Pit Bull knew a kind person when he met one. Recently, a man got off a bus in St. Louis, Missouri and noticed a dog hanging around the bus stop. He gave the dog a few pets and then began walking home. That’s when the dog decided to follow after him.
“He followed a man home from the bus stop a few weeks ago. He was dirty, skinny, covered in scars,” Stray Rescue of St. Louis said of the dog they named Orville.
Knowing the dog needed help, the man got Orville into his yard and called the animal rescue for help.
“This dog just kind of followed him home,” Donna Lochmann, chief life saving officer for Stray Rescue of St. Louis, told The Dodo. “So he put him in his backyard to contain him, and then he called us.”
Donna has rescued her fair share of Pit Bulls in the city. Many are scared and avoid her trying to leash them. But Orville was just ready to get rescued. When Donna arrived at the home with fellow rescuer Natalie they didn’t have to do much.
Donna wrote in a Facebook post, “We arrived on the scene and he immediately trusted us, hopped in the car, and then right in our laps. He was so happy!”
Orville was so trusting and eager to go with them that he sat in the middle of the front seats next to Donna and Natalie. “He’s reallyyyyyy skinny, smells horrible, and has infected dog bites on his snout,” they said about Orville. But despite that they let him get up close because he “thinks he’s a lap dog!”
To say he was sweet, happy and grateful to be getting attention would be an understatement.
“The moment we got Orville to the clinic, he climbed in Molly’s lap,” Stray Rescue added in a Facebook post. “He is beyond adorable, [and] we’re so happy he’s here to get the help he needs.”
A short time later they updated everyone as to his progress.
“He smooched everyone in the clinic, and now this baby boy who is so grateful for this second chance is CLEARED and ready for adoption or foster! He’s 3 years old, sweet as a cookie and cute as can be,” they wrote.
Just look at that smiling face. Stray Rescue of St. Louis is really hoping Orville will find a home, even if it’s a temporary one. They are currently dealing with a shortage of foster givers and could really use the help. And who wouldn’t want to help such as sweet dog as Orville?
