Tyson Cash runs a doggy daycare business along with his wife in Franklin County, Georgia. As part of their daily routine, he buses to his clients and picks the dogs up. But recently, when he stopped by a client’s home, he noticed a new dog sitting next to his regular dog client, Motley.
Tyson, who runs Keller Creek Boarding and Grooming spotted a Labrador Retriever with Motley. Tyson contacted Motley’s family to check if they had gotten a new dog but they told him no. The dog was a stray who had been hanging out in the neighborhood the past few days and some people were making sure he was getting fed and even letting him spend the night.
When Motley made his way over to the bus, the stray followed after him and really wanted to get onboard too.
But Tyson couldn’t bring the dog on board, concerned for the safety of the other dogs as he didn’t know the dog’s vaccination status or if he had fleas or ticks. “I didn’t want to jeopardize all the other dogs,” he told The Washington Post. “He wanted on the bus badly. He was doing everything he could to get on with the other dogs.”
As Tyson pulled away from the stop the stray dog began chasing after the bus. Tyson took a short video and his wife posted it on social media hoping they might hear from the dog’s owners. The couple were concerned for the dog and Tyson felt horrible for leaving him.
The couple has nine dogs at home already, but Tyson wanted to figure out a way to help the dog. Thankfully, help arrived when Sadie Peace, who is a client of theirs. Her dog, Nellie, attends Keller Creek. She was heartbroken seeing the dog chase after the bus and reached out because she had been wanting to get a companion for Nellie. She got in touch with Tyson, who in turn gave her the contact information for the woman who had been giving food to the stray dog (who the woman had named Waylon) and went to pick him up that day.
“He just walked right up to us with these big beautiful brown eyes and stared at us for a second,” said Sadie. “He fell right in love with us as we did him.”
When she brought him home, she realized Waylon wasn’t doing so well. He was covered with fleas and ticks and was very skinny. He also has scars around his neck hinting at past abuse. When Sadie took him to the vet, she discovered Waylon was microchipped but thankfully his owners agreed to Sadie adopting him. Waylon has been with Sadie’s family for a month now and is getting along famously with Nellie. She says Waylon is still a bit fearful if people startle him, but he is adjusting to life in his new home and loves to cuddle.
As for Waylon’s wish to get on the Keller Creek bus? That wish was finally granted after he was up-to-date on all his vaccines. He’s now a regular, happy passenger.
