This is an incredible story of a homeless dog who made an epic journey to return to the family who had shown her kindness.
An elderly couple helped the stray dog they named Negrita after finding her pregnant and emaciated on the streets of Rivadavia, Argentina.
They nursed her back to health and they helped her look after her puppies after she gave birth. When the puppies were weaned, they found them all loving homes. The couple also found Negrita a new home too, as they felt they were too old to look after her.
They contacted a friend living in the neighboring town of Jáchal and made arrangements to transport Negrita to her new home.
However, two weeks later the elderly couple got a call from their friend telling them that Negrita had disappeared. Her new owner had searched for her, but the dog was nowhere to be found.
More time passed, until one day the old couple was surprised to find Negrita at their doorstep! The dog had trekked 161 kilometres (over 100 miles) back to Rivadavia to return to them.
Her long walk had worn her out. Her paw pads were full of sores and she was exhausted and thirsty. According to Minuto Uno, the day she came back, she drank a whole bucket of water and slept for 24 hours straight.
The elderly couple let their friend know Negrita was back with them, and although the friend offered to come and pick her up, the couple decided they could not part with her again. Negrita was home to stay!
