A teacher in Australia is bringing the dream monsters of her students to life in a wonderful way. After asking the class to draw their dream monster she surprised them a few months later with a stuffed toy version of their creatures!
The teacher, who wishes to remain anonymous, presented the plushies to the students during the last week of their school term.
Reid Parker, one of the parents of the students, posted photos of the wonderful monsters on Twitter.
It began after he posted a photo of his son Oscar’s monster in a group chat with other parents in the class of 22 kids. The parents posted their own toys and drawings in response.
From there, Parker got their permission to post the photos of their kids’ toys on Twitter as a way to show appreciation for the teacher.
His Twitter thread soon went viral winning the teacher and the kids’ imaginative monsters fans across the globe.
Parker told SBS News that Oscar’s monster hasn’t gotten an official name yet, but one is percolating. “It’s apparently a Therizinosaurus, which he saw recently in [the film] Jurassic Park Dominion,” he said.
Parker opened a GoFundMe just before Christmas to help raise funds for supplies for the teacher, who makes the toys on her own at her own expense.
He wrote on the fundraising page, ” I wasn’t going to set up this fundraiser, as I’m fairly sure the teacher involved (who wishes to remain nameless) would feel uncomfortable. However, a lot of people have asked for ways to give a little gift to her to help pay for supplies, or just a ‘thank you’ for bringing them a little joy.”
He also encourages that people donate to the local school in their area.
We’re pretty sure the children will treasure the toys for years to come. Not only as a keepsake but as a remembrance of a favorite teacher.
