Kenneth Shinozuka is an incredible young man, who loves his grandfather. When his grandfather, who has Alzheimer’s, began wandering away from home, Kenneth wanted to do something to help him. He developed a sensor that fits in a sock and sounds an alarm when this grandfather begins to roam away.
The alarm sends a discrete alert to a smart phone, allowing a caregiver to track him down. Kenneth decided he wanted to help more than just his granddad and got an internship with the Alzheimer’s Associations. He’s now testing the device in an assisted-living facility and so far there’s been no false alarms!
It’s a pretty amazing invention and it could end up helping thousands of people, all because of one grandson’s love of his grandfather!
