No text message is more important than a life, and Aimee Eckert is living proof of that. It was April 9, 2011 and Aimee had a day off work. She was driving on a country road on a sunny day when a woman who was speeding and texting smashed into her head-on.
Miraculously, Aimee survived. But she has metal in every limb, a stint in her heart, and one leg amputated at the knee. But it was the loss of her unborn child that hits her the most. She was six months pregnant. Doctors also had to perform an emergency hysterectomy, and she’s unable to have any more biological children as result of the accident. As for the woman who caused the crash? She got a citation and that was all.
In the face of so much hardship and loss, Aimee has made it her mission to spread awareness about the dangers of texting and driving. “There’s a reason this all happened, I think,” Aimee says. “God was definitely looking out for me. He wasn’t ready to take me yet.”
Please share Aimee’s story with your loved ones. And please remind everyone you know to pull over and stop their vehicle if they have to read or send a text message!
