A tiny Terrier Mix who was rescued from near death is giving back to the those who saved her. Willowbrook is the LA County Sheriff’s department’s “smallest” therapy dog. But a year and a half ago, her chances weren’t looking so good. At eight-weeks-old, she was rescued from a backyard breeder in Sylmar in 2022 and had a case of parvo that threatened her life. She weighed just one pound at the time and her rescuers weren’t sure she would make it. But Willowbrook is a little fighter and she recovered.
“She is one tough pup,” Tracey Leong with NBC4 explained.”She overcame a deadly disease as a puppy when she was rescued, and then she went on to complete an intense training program and became the tiniest K-9 therapy dog for the LA County’s Sheriff’s Department.”
Willowbrook now weighs five pounds (6 if you count her vest) and as a registered therapy dog she’s logged more than 1,400 hours and met thousands of first responders “bringing comfort and compassion” to them.
What a heartwarming story. It’s great to see a rescue dog thriving and having such a wonderful job. And as her handler and mom Jennifer Stott said, “She wants to show that little dogs have can make a difference.”
