“When you show up to Christmas dinner with a stray pittie.” That’s how Madelyn introduced Gus, a dog who decided she was the one to rescue him. Madelyn found the stray Pit Bull on the way to Christmas dinner at her grandmother’s house after he ran out into the middle of the road and climbed right into her car!
She had just stopped at a stoplight when she saw the dog walking out into the busy street. He then walked over her console, went into the back of her car, and laid down. That’s how she ended up bringing Gus to her grandparents’ house.
Gus was so dirty they couldn’t let him in the house. He was so sad that he couldn’t join them inside, but he didn’t want to fall asleep either. He was so happy when they came out to visit him that he would climb into their lap. “I think he was just thankful that he was not on the road anymore,” Madelyn said.
Later that night, they went outside and gave him a bath. When he got inside, he was so exhausted that he lay on the chair and fell asleep. It only took a day for him to want to play and show them his personality. He knew he was in a safe place. He was scanned for a microchip (no owner found) and given his shots. Madelyn decided she would take him to pick out his own toy, and he picked out a gator (a toy he still has ’til this day).
Everyone in Madelyn’s family loves Gus, but it wasn’t the right time for him to join their family. Thankfully, a sister of Madelyn’s friend was looking for a dog and met him shortly after his rescue. The two hit it off, and now Gus is living a happy, wonderful life in New York.
